Day 12 (Saturday 8 March) Carnival

Once again there was rain in the forecast for today but the weather apps suggested it would end around 9am.  In the event it was showery until midday and, once again, as has been the hallmark of the weather here during our stay, there was just the slightest edge to the wind. At times the temperature on my hone might read 20C but it didn't feel quite like that.

We know that it can be lovely here in mid-winter so we're just assuming we've been a little unfortunate.  One sign that things have not been normal is that the planes have been taking off southwards, suggesting a southerly wind.  Normally one might think that is good as it must be a warm wind, but the normal pattern for very pleasant weather here is for the wind to be from the north/north-east.

Another surprise is that it has never been quite warm enough to eat breakfast or our evening meal outdoors and the patio heaters for the outdoor tables here have been working every evening.

During the morning as well as going out and trying to avoid the showers, we existed for a time in the very welcome glass house between the cafeteria and the pool.

On a more positive note, today was the day for the Carnival parade in Puerto del Carmen which started at 5pm by the Spar supermarket near the Cabrera Medina car hire office and ended down at the Los Fariones Hotel at the far old of the new town.

It was quite a parade and it took around 90 minutes to pass by.  The early part was excellent but in the latter stages it became a bit ragged. There are lots of photos to tell the story.
