We knew that rain was forecast for this afternoon but the morning was beautiful so we stuck to our plans and set off to the cactus gardens. We couldn't believe how many cars and people were there but, once inside, there was plenty of room. We hadn't been here for about 20 years and the cacti and succulents had really grown. We spent a very enjoyable couple of hours wandering around in the lovely sunshine.
Our next stop was the Mirador del Rio. We had been here in 2024 on our whistle stop tour of the island but it had been very foggy so we didn't get the full benefit of the magnificent vie over El Rio channel to the island of La Graciosa and Montana Clara beyond. We loved the view so much that we (and especially Mike) kept going back for another look! We had a drink and a snack in the cafe which overlooked the channel. We could see dark clouds approaching so we left and set off back.
On the way home we stopped at the cemetery in Haria where we knew Cesar Manrique, the artist who did so much for Lanzarote, was buried. We struggled to locate the grave but then Mike spotted it. It was very understated for Lanzarote's most famous son.
We then had a brief stop in Teguise and headed back home for a beer/drink in the pool bar.
Mike's photos of Manrique's grave and of our journey back follow
