Day 15 (Tuesday 11 March) Epiblog

Las Costas is very well situated from our point of view. It's walking distance from Matagorda, the Antica and a longer walk into main part of Puerto and there’s small Hiperdino supermarket across the street

Our shower room/toilet had no ventilation. As we were in a junior suite we had a separate bath with shower over

There was no shelf/cupboard space in the bathroom but plenty of storage space in the bedroom

Our Junior Suite had no microwave whereas standard rooms did

The pool and jacuzzi were nicely heated

The buffet at breakfast and dinner were perfectly adequate although not as good as Barcelo Santiago or Natura Palace Hotels but they were more expensive hotels

Costa Teguise continues to be a place we wouldn't want to stay in.

Teguise old town is well worth a visit

The shower/floor is slippery. E wore flipflops in the shower 🤣

Shower gel, hand soap and body cream were supplied in room. We also got a dressing gown and slippers but maybe this was because we had a free upgrade to a junior suite

Our flight back today is LS360. It's due to depart at 1550 and land at 2000. You can follow it on the Flightaware app.

Our next adventure will be in April and you can follow it here

Day 14 (Monday 10 March) Our Last Full Day

As I mentioned before, the weather hasn't been quite up to our normal expectations and it had looked as though it was finally going to settle down as we left. However a report in the local English-speaking publication Canarian Weekly suggest otherwise. Read about it here

Marella Explorer arrives from Fuerteventura on its Canary Islands cruise

Marion and Mike leave the hotel

A G&T and a large beer in The Rotunda on Pocillos corner

Marion and Mike take to the air en route to Stansted

.... while we enjoy a liquid lunch on our patio.

Marella Explorer leaves Lanzarote on its way to Madeira (although she seems to be sailing in the wrong direction, so perhaps a change of itinerary?)

We're leaving on Tuesday so we'll sign off now. Our flight back is LS360 and is due to depart at 1550 and is due to land at 2000. You can follow it on the Flightaware app.

Day 13 (Sunday 9 March) Marion and Mike's Last Full Day

Today was Marion and Mike's last full day and Mike is now suffering increasingly from withdrawal symptoms at the thought of having to leave.

The forecast said that there was a 20% chance we might get a light shower around midday but the sky looked promising until - guess what - it rained around midday.  But there's more. We came back from 'The Strip' and the weather finally looked set fair for the day with a mild breeze until we were ready to get down to the pool around 3pm - and then it rained again and had turned cool. It's really way below our experience of Lanzarote weather.

'Tropical' is a Canary Islands-only brand of beer. When the Romans came for a brief visit, they found a breed of dog unique to these islands. The Latin word for dog is 'canis' and this gave the name to the Canary Islands, so nothing to do with birds! (This is the XL measure of beer for €2.50 (£2.10).

Bailey's crêpe for Mike. He's in heaven!

Day 12 (Saturday 8 March) Carnival

Once again there was rain in the forecast for today but the weather apps suggested it would end around 9am.  In the event it was showery until midday and, once again, as has been the hallmark of the weather here during our stay, there was just the slightest edge to the wind. At times the temperature on my hone might read 20C but it didn't feel quite like that.

We know that it can be lovely here in mid-winter so we're just assuming we've been a little unfortunate.  One sign that things have not been normal is that the planes have been taking off southwards, suggesting a southerly wind.  Normally one might think that is good as it must be a warm wind, but the normal pattern for very pleasant weather here is for the wind to be from the north/north-east.

Another surprise is that it has never been quite warm enough to eat breakfast or our evening meal outdoors and the patio heaters for the outdoor tables here have been working every evening.

During the morning as well as going out and trying to avoid the showers, we existed for a time in the very welcome glass house between the cafeteria and the pool.

On a more positive note, today was the day for the Carnival parade in Puerto del Carmen which started at 5pm by the Spar supermarket near the Cabrera Medina car hire office and ended down at the Los Fariones Hotel at the far old of the new town.

It was quite a parade and it took around 90 minutes to pass by.  The early part was excellent but in the latter stages it became a bit ragged. There are lots of photos to tell the story.
